Sweden-Poland Joint Issue: Marie Curie Stamps

In conjunction with the celebration of International Year of Chemistry 2011, Sweden Post releases joint issue stamp together with Poland Post featuring Marie Curie. This is the third time Marie Curie being portrayed on Sweden Postage stamp since she received her Nobel Prize in Physics in year 1903 and Nobel Prize in Chemistry in year 1911. Marie Curie is the only person who won the Nobel Prize in both Physics and Chemistry. The first day cover for Marie Curie stamp released by Sweden-Poland Post contains a miniature stamp sheet featuring Marie Curie and the Nobel Medal.

In addition, Sweden Post also releases a set of limited edition (3000 units) of Marie Curie FDC featuring Marie Curie miniature stamps in year 2011 and a Nobel Prize stamps in 1963 featuring Antoine Henri Becquerel, Pierre Curie and Marie Curie.

Marie Curie is being portrayed on Sweden Postage stamps for the first time on December 10, 1963 in which Sweden Post issued stamps to commemorate the Nobel Prize winners in 1903. This issue’s Nobel Prize stamps featured Antoine Henri Becquerel, Pierre Curie and Marie Curie; Svante Arrhenius, Niels Finsen and Bjornstjerne Bjornson.

On 10 December 1971, the Sweden Post issued three stamps in conjunction to commemorate the Nobel Prize winners in 1911. This issue’s Nobel Prize stamps featured German physicist, Wilhelm Wien; Marie Curie; Allvar Gullstrand and Maurice Polidore Marie Bernhard Maeterlinck.
